Make your marriage the safest place on earth. Of all the best-selling books and award-winning videos Dr. Gary Smalley has produced for couples, I Promise is his most important and most revolutionary work ever. A decade of focused research has brought him to this startling new conclusion: Great marriages are built on a foundation of trust, not behavioral skills. So not only is a harmonious, long-lasting relationship within every couple's grasp, but emotional security is the cornerstone for the relationship you've always wanted. That means you don't have to be a relationship guru to connect deeply with your spouse after all! You simply need to feel secure in your marriage – and to help your spouse do the same. Then the best relationship possible will happen naturally. Creating security is easier than you think. It takes only five simple promises to each other. Promises you can most certainly make – promises this book will equip you to keep. Writing in his trademark style, Dr. Smalley delivers a lifetime of information, true experiences, encouragement, and wisdom for anyone who wants their marriage to be not just safe, but the safest place on earth.

Somewhere beneath the triumphs, tribulations, successes, disappointments, hopes, and hurts of marriage lies the promises we made to our spouse. We promised love, fidelity, respect, through sickness and in health. This book is about one average guy of average means who has struggled to keep those promises and failed on many occasions. It's a glimpse into the heart of a Christian soldier who fights for his marriage with no basic training. To be sure the battle is not flesh and blood but against powers and principalities of a world set against God's purpose for marriage. This book is a journey of self-discovery and a transparent model of what he faces everyday as a husband. Read closely and honestly, and perhaps discover that this book is about you. David Martin attended Rochester Institute of Technology where he studied technical communications. He now works as an independent computer consultant for small businesses. He has been married for 8.5 years to his wife Darie Martin. He is a father to Daniel Zachary Martin, 3.5 years old, and Danaye Nicolette Martin, 1 year old. During the past 6 years, he and his wife have served as Vice President of Development for The Marriage Mentoring Network, a non-profit organization that holds monthly events such as workshops with the goal of strengthening the quality of marriage relationships. He is also a founding member of the Marriage Ministry at Christian Cultural Center under the pastoral leadership of Dr. A.R. Bernard Senior. David and his family currently live in Long Island, New York.

A story of love and deceit I Promise... is a story about a perfectionist. Every job demands the same but who had ever thought of Raghunath, a pyre maker, to be a cynical perfectionist. Each pyre that he made was a masterpiece for him. Every time he built a pyre, his father's instructions used to run over and over again in his head... The wood should not be soft - checked; it should be dry - checked; it should be seven feet in length and two-and-a-half feet in breadth - checked; the hollow ones separated from the solid and heavy ones - checked; the hay and burning material all ready - checked; ghee - checked. Thirty-two years of his life went by living with the dead. But then somebody's presence changed everything about his existence, for good or for worse? Let us have you decide the same... I promise . . . brings Raghunath's life to a question. 'Is it better living dead, when life is like your mistress, or is it better getting a life right before death, like an unfaithful one?' The perfectly made pyre stood staring at Raghu. Who had ever thought of witnessing one's own pyre? But in Raghu's case, it was justified .... read on to know Raghunath's story ... a story never told before.

Maybe you saw the cover of this book on a shelf in a bookstore, and opened it, thinking it was the story of a former lady gangster with secrets to reveal -- or possibly the ruminations of a partially recovered escapee from a nut house. Well, tough luck, it's not. That book you are holding in your hand is just something I decided to write to get some old garbage off my mind. I'm not going to glorify it any more than that. I just happen to be an outspoken schnook raised by a pair of other outspoken schnooks, residents of an average neighborhood of nobodies, most of whose lives were pretty boring. So why buy this book? I'm no celebrity -- I'm not even a genius or a compulsive gambler -- although I am compulsive. There are two simple reasons why I wrote it: (1) Now that I'm a seventy-one year old lady, I can finally tell the truth about my undiagnosed insanity because all the other principal players in my personal drama are dead. I also thought it might be a good idea to put some of my childhood anecdotes in book form, rather than have them buried in some sort of time capsule. Knowing my history, nobody I know would ever dig it up anyway. (2) The second reason is that I need your money. I want you to purchase this relatively cheap book as a charitable contribution to my personal fund, and, trust me -- it's not even tax deductible. I'll let you in on a little secret -- I had a third reason. They say senior citizens who want to avoid memory loss should exercise their brains more. So by having to write in sentence form, in halfway decent English, I'm doing it. I am taking my brain out for a walk. I'm a survivor, I think. Yes, indeed, I've just checked my pulse. After living through a tumultuous childhood, crisis-filled puberty, interrupted schooling, multiple marriages, childbirth, divorce, career revisions (I've even practiced law for thirty years), health issues and a few other bumps in the road, it's time for me to be able to let go of pretense and face reality. (Yiikes!) Actually, I hate facing reality. It gives me the itches and takes me on that wild ride back into my past. All those memories are still vivid. When I was a four-year-old tomboy, I had a lack of well-behaved mentors to guide me. I was an only child until age eight of two working parents living in a storefront neighborhood where the only kids my age were rowdy little boys who were always dirty and played mean. I probably thought I was supposed to act like the little devils that they were. Fortunately, this stage of my young life ran its course and I settled down to a relatively calm existence as a mere rebel. I never got over that stage, but I'm harmless enough. I like the idea of starting a new project at age seventy-one, so I'm ready to reduce my craziness and compulsive behavior to a few chapters of light reading. I have tried hard to keep it light because my attitude is, if you want to get into something heavy, you're better off reading one of William Shakespeare's tragedies. I've had fun doing this project, so maybe you'll chuckle a little bit as you follow some of my antics. If you don't, well then, I've still got your money. I have come to the conclusion that it's a mistake to take the road of life too seriously, so I simply view it as a scenic bypass carved out of the murky human jungle.
